Google Ad Information
- What is a Google Ad?
- When someone searches something on Google, the results that show up are based off of matching words, related content, how often a link has been clicked on, and more. When you create a google ad, you bid to put your message at the top of the page among the first few listings with a small icon notifying the viewer it is an advertised listing.
- How do they work?
- When building a Google ad, it requires a selection of keywords or phrases to either determine exactly which searches you’d like the ads to show up for, or if you want to show up for anything Google might consider similar to those terms. For example, if you use “brake service” as a term, Google is often smart enough to have your ad show up if someone types something like “I need my brake pads replaced.” Once the keywords are selected and the targeting selections are chosen, your budget works as an auction bid on every search in your area that matches the keywords. The more competitive your bid, the better your odds are of showing up on the searches.
- Are they expensive?
- The cost for online marketing is all relative to the platform you are using and what your goals are. On a platform like Facebook, you are bidding to get your business name in front of users based off their interests and personal information. When it comes to Google ads, you are bidding to get in front of a customer as they are searching for a product or service. So, while something like $5 for a click might seem expensive, if that click leads to a purchase and a future returning customer that initial investment is well worth it. Google allows for various bidding options, usually along the lines of a daily spending goal and possibly the addition of a cap on how much you’re willing to spend on a result. To explain this, if you put in a daily budget of $15, and your average cost per click is $5, you can expect around 3 clicks per day. Those clicks are from people who have searched for a service, found your business, and decided to visit your website/call/or reach out in some way as opposed to just scrolling down the list. Beyond those clicks, you don’t have to pay when there’s no action on the ad. If your ad is seen 1,000 times and your name is getting exposure but no clicks, you won’t pay anything. You are only charged for the clicks you get.
- Are they easy to set up?
- Google does a great job of walking you through each step asking for input on the ad. However, it does take a certain level of experience and marketing knowledge to know what the best starting points might be when it comes to ad details, and when a suggestion from Google may or may not benefit your goal. We utilize a team of professional, certified ad specialists who use their trained knowledge and their experience from creating and monitoring ads to learn what options will lead to the most likely successful outcome with the ads. When it comes to keywords, location targeting, Google’s various extensions that allow your ad to include more features, and what types of search engine optimized terms to use in your ad text all come into play and are considered individually on each ad we create. It’s never a bad thing to familiarize yourself with the different platforms out there, and each person is going to build out campaigns a little differently and might find better or worse results, but quality takes time and continuous adjustments to follow trends so it’s always a great idea to ask a pro for some help.
Whether you are thinking about switching your digital marketing company and the services you receive, or you want to start the process of getting access to or creating social media platforms for your business, give OSM/ODM a call. We will do our best to make sure that the reputation of your business meets your expectations.
