A Sleeping Giant
Twitter has had an interesting reputation since it was started back in March of 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone, Even Williams, and Noah Glass. If you ask a normal citizen about Twitter, they may say that only people who care to share their opinions use Twitter, or maybe think of public figures like Donald Trump, or even the fact that Elon Musk is in the process of formally purchasing Twitter.
Either way, if you are unaware of Twitter or don’t know much about it, here is a snippet about what the platform is: Twitter is a social media platform that allows people to microblog. Each tweet allows for 280 characters, so being concise in your verbiage is key. News outlets use Twitter to disseminate their content and will add a link to the article that was written, and so forth. Even if you think that having a Twitter business account for, you may want to reconsider.
Twitter, like Yelp, is somewhat of a misunderstood platform. People may not find it appealing because of current or past events, but they both are powerful agents in marketing your brand. According to statistics from Statista, there were 76.9 million Twitter users as of January in the United States alone, meaning that about fifth of the U.S. population is on Twitter. They also boast a hefty amount of worldwide users. As of January of 2022, they recorded about 436 million monthly active users, What’s more is as of the 4th quarter of 2021, Twitter had 217 million active Twitter users that were monetizable.
Social media platforms like Facebook Google, and Yelp all offer ads to be run on your business’ social media listings. Twitter is no exception. In fact, Twitter held the lowest cost-per-mille (cost per thousand) as of October of 2021. Cost-per-mille is the price an advertiser would pay per 1,000 impressions, so that would mean that an advertiser would pay $6.46 per 1,000 impressions. Monetizable Twitter users means ads can be effective, and Twitter ads are having an impact. In 2020, Twitter generated $3.2 billion in ad revenue. 2021 saw a substantial increase in ad revenue to $4.5 billion.
So, whether you plan on posting your own content or would like to promote services or specials, there are options at your disposal that you can use to enhance your business’ reputation on the platform.
Filling In A Blank Canvas
Now that you have an idea as to how Twitter can help you and your business, let’s get into how to create a Twitter page.
To start, go to www.twitter.com. You can choose to either sign-in or sign up for a Twitter account for your business. Make sure to follow the prompt. Something to note about creating the page: It will ask what your birthday is, make sure that the page is 20+ years old because Twitter has an age restriction.
Once you have created the page, you will notice that the page itself is blank, apart from the name, which can be updated at any time. The next step is to edit your profile. Locate the edit profile button. Once you click that, you should be able to edit the name, the location of the business (city, state), a place to put your business website for consumers to interact with, and a bio section. The bio is the place where you will tell people about your business. It is only 100 characters, so you will need to be concise.
