Every month, social media companies bring gifts in the form of quality-of-life changes and overall improvements to their platforms. We found some of the important social media updates that could impact your social media marketing strategies in the future.
If you have ever had a Twitter profile, you may have noticed that it started with 140 characters per post. In the early days of the platform, Twitter was thought to be a great platform for bloggers. Since then, it has changed directions to where people now share pictures, videos, news stories, and more.
After purchasing Twitter, Elon Musk made sweeping changes to bridge the gap between Twitter and some of the other platforms. One of those changes is the amount of text allowed within posts.
In February of this year, Twitter gave Twitter Blue subscribers 4,000 characters to use in posts, which later increased to 10,000. But now, it has been increased to 25,000 characters for Twitter Blue subscribers to play with per tweet.
According to Andrew Hutchinson of Social Media Today, this change could be beneficial if Twitter can create more lucrative monetization opportunities.
By offering more to its content creators through monetization, Twitter encourages them to create content solely for Twitter. Twitter is looking at options for creators to use Twitter for their content, instead of posting it to other platforms.
Although this is an exciting update, we are not sure how this will impact businesses that subscribe to Twitter Blue. This is something we will be looking out for in the future.
We have plenty of clients who have a LinkedIn profile for their business. It has allowed them to filter candidates to find the best fit for their business. They have recently announced that companies will now be able to directly communicate with users.
This change gives companies, big or small, the chance to build relationships with clients and users alike. The thought behind this change is that the priorities of businesses have shifted to building relationships with other users.
Look at platforms like Facebook, Yelp, and Twitter. Businesses have the latitude to communicate their messages effectively using the DM (direct message) feature. The implementation of the DM feature on LinkedIn is more for B2B interactions.
LinkedIn had this to say about the new feature:
“Across our community of more than 930 million professionals, we want to make it as easy as possible for marketers to reach those future buyers and for those future buyers to connect with brands, so we are starting to roll out Pages Messaging.”
Having a business profile on LinkedIn creates a fantastic opportunity for small and large businesses to communicate with buyers by offering relevant information that consumers can use to make a purchase decision.
The new App from Meta is codenamed “Project P92”. Meta has not yet announced the name of its new platform. The new social media platform is thought to be a direct competitor of Twitter. It is thought that Twitter lost traction in gaining new users, but Musk has stated that is not the case. In fact, Musk has said that Twitter has around 250 million mDAU (monetized daily active users).
The new Meta platform is set to be launched in mid-July. The goal of the new app is to attract the attention of users who left Twitter due to their beliefs and controversy surrounding the app around the time that Musk purchased the platform for $44 billion.
Facebook has the most daily active users compared to any other social media platform available today. Facebook users may flock to Meta’s new platform because there will be some similarities between them. Even Instagram will have similarities with the new platform since it is being built off Instagram’s network graph.
Brand loyalty may have a major impact on users’ decisions to add another platform to their social media collection or jump ship from Twitter altogether. Only time will tell just how well this will go the second time around.
Considering TikTok's rapid rise in popularity over the last three years, it may not be long before consumers have a new, high-quality platform to create content for. Meta's newest platform has the potential to gain significant interest due to consumer curiosity.
